All About Teak

I’ve always been a fan of Teak furniture. It is beautiful, and furniture such as Teak garden seats creates a peaceful ambiance in your backyard. But it wasn’t until today that I decided to investigate the origin of Teak wood.
Teaks scientific name is Tectona. It is a genus of tropical hardwood trees in the mint family. These trees are found in the monsoon forests in south and southeast Asia. There are three basic species of Teak. Common Teak is the most widespread type of teak and is found throughout India and Indo-China. Dahat Teak is found only in Burma, and is an endangered species. Philippine Teak grows only in the Philippines and is endangered as well.
In India, Teak is used extensively in India in order to make doors and window frames, columns and beams in older houses, as well as furniture. This wood is so popular because it is easy to work and has natural oils which make it great for outdoor furniture. These oils make it termite and other insect proof, and it does not require chemical treatment or finishing.
Teak trees make beautiful pieces of outdoor furniture. Now that I know all about Teak wood, I feel like I can appreciate the furniture on a much deeper level.
